I'm not sure about the heating function (self-heating), but the kids use it well. I put this pad on top of the bed cushion I'm using and put one or two hot packs in between before going to work, and it stays warm when I come back. I was afraid my kids would get cold so I turned on the electric blanket, but I was scared it might catch fire. Doing it this way seems perfect~ I believe it stays warmer because it has a self-heating function!
